How a grid tie micro inverter works
The inverter monitors the mains waveform and injects power in phase with it. Everything you generate is consumed first by appliances already running in the house; only the surplus reaches the meter. No. A grid tie inverter needs a live mains reference to synchronise with and shuts down during an outage. For backup power you need an off-grid or hybrid inverter with a battery.
