A single controller that manages both a wind turbine and a solar array on the same 12V or 24V battery bank. It handles up to 800 W of wind input and 800 W of solar input, with boost charging that keeps the turbine charging in light wind and PWM dump-load braking that protects the turbine in a storm.

Why a hybrid controller

  • One device, two sources — no need to buy and wire a separate wind controller and solar controller, and no risk of the two fighting over the same battery.
  • Wind boost charging — steps up low turbine voltage so the battery keeps charging at wind speeds where a plain PWM controller would deliver nothing.
  • PWM dump load with external resistor — bleeds excess energy and brakes the turbine electrically instead of letting it overspeed.
  • Automatic solar disconnect — isolates the PV input when the battery is full, protecting cells from overcharge.
  • LCD monitoring — live voltage and current for wind, solar and load, with user-adjustable set points.
  • Conformal-coated board — sprayed circuit board resists dust, humidity and static in outdoor enclosures.

What's in the box

  • 1 × wind/solar hybrid charge controller
  • 1 × user manual with wiring diagram

Dump-load resistor, turbine, solar panels, battery bank and cabling are sold separately. Variant options with a built-in off-grid function are listed in the dropdown.

How to match it to your system

  • The controller must be rated at or above the turbine's maximum output, not its rated output. An 800 W turbine that peaks at 1000 W needs a 1000 W class controller.
  • Solar and wind inputs are independent — you can run wind only, solar only, or both.
  • Always connect the battery first, then the turbine, then the solar array. A wind controller with no battery attached has nowhere to send the energy.
  • Never disconnect the battery while the turbine is spinning: the dump load depends on that connection to brake the rotor.

Typical applications

  • Off-grid cabins running a small turbine plus a solar array
  • Boats, yachts and remote moorings with mixed generation
  • Telecom, monitoring and street-lighting posts
  • Farm buildings with seasonal wind and summer sun

Frequently asked questions

Can I use only solar, or only wind?

Yes. Either input can be left unconnected. The controller detects what is present and regulates accordingly.

Do I need a dump load resistor?

For a wind turbine, yes. The resistor is what absorbs energy when the battery is full so the rotor stays braked and the turbine does not overspeed. Solar-only systems do not need one.

What happens in a storm?

When battery voltage reaches the upper limit or wind input exceeds the set point, the controller switches the turbine into the PWM dump load, which applies electrical braking and holds the rotor at a safe speed.

Does it work with lithium (LiFePO4) batteries?

It works with 12 V and 24 V lead-acid, AGM and gel banks by default. For LiFePO4, confirm that your BMS tolerates the charge profile and set the voltage limits manually before first use.

Is this an MPPT or a PWM controller?

It uses MPPT tracking on the solar input and boost charging with PWM dump-load control on the wind input — the combination each source actually needs.

Can it power AC appliances directly?

No. It charges a battery bank and feeds DC loads. To run 110 V or 230 V appliances, add an inverter sized to your load.

Can I connect a turbine larger than 800 W?

No. Exceeding the input rating will damage the controller and voids the warranty. Choose a controller rated above your turbine's peak output.
